Dear Parents,
What a week it's been at Sheet Primary! I'll be honest with you – we packed far too much into these past few days and we're all feeling it a bit. But you know what? Seeing the excitement on the children's faces has made every exhausting moment absolutely worth it. That's what it's all about, isn't it?
Monday kicked us off with a brilliant visit from Hampshire Libraries who came in to introduce the summer reading competition for 2025. The children were buzzing with enthusiasm, and I know many of them are already planning their reading adventures for the holidays. There's nothing quite like seeing young minds fired up about books and stories.
From Tuesday onwards, we've had the pleasure of hosting Isabel, Delilah and Oliver on their school experience with us. It's been wonderful watching them work with our pupils and staff, bringing fresh energy and perspectives to our classrooms. These experiences are so valuable – not just for the students gaining experience, but for our whole school community.
Wednesday brought some exciting news on the staffing front. We held interviews for our SENCo position, and I'm absolutely delighted to announce that Mrs Jenny Black has accepted our offer! She'll be joining us one day per week from September, which is fantastic news for our pupils who need that extra support. Mrs Black will be popping in for a few days before the new term starts to get familiar with her new role and to meet our wonderful staff and children properly. We also had class photos, more details of when those will be available soon.
On a more bittersweet note, I need to share that our lovely Ms Hines, who has been such a treasured part of our team for nineteen years, has decided it's time for semi-retirement. She's ready to explore her creative side and follow some new pathways. While we'll miss her enormously, we're excited for her new adventure and wish her all the luck in the world as she discovers what creative talents await her. Alongside her Mrs Thirkeld has decided to take a break after a year of working with us. We thank them very much for all of their hard work.
Thursday was absolutely massive!! We had three different groups doing three completely different things, which meant our staff were stretched in every direction. One group headed off to Winchester for the 2025 Winchester School Games event, another group visited Churchers College for their 'Engineers of the Future' programme, and our Year 4 pupils had their much-anticipated annual camp out right here on our school field.
I have to give huge thanks to all our staff who went above and beyond to make Thursday happen. Those who accompanied the trips, those who supervised the camp out, and especially those who held the fort back at school with hardly any staff around – you were all absolutely brilliant. Days like these don't just happen by magic, and I'm so grateful for everyone's dedication.
NEXT WEEK
Looking ahead to next week, we've got plenty more excitement coming our way. Monday brings swimming for our Herons and other older children, followed by the swimming gala at Highfield in the afternoon. Selected pupils from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 will be leaving school at 2.45pm for that one. We have a residential meeting for all current Year 4 and 5 parents 6pm. Meeting ID: 320 334 070 993 5 Passcode: 2uy27fg6.
Tuesday's going to be special because the staging arrives for Peter Pan! I can already feel the anticipation building as we get closer to our production. The children have been working so hard, and it's going to be magical. We also see our new Robins again.
Wednesday sees us interviewing for our maternity cover teacher position. Once that's sorted, I'll be able to let you know about class teachers for next year – I know many of you are waiting for that information.
Thursday takes some of our selected children off to Horndean College for another exciting opportunity, and Friday rounds off the week with our Annual Small School Group swimming gala.
Honestly, there's loads and loads to do, but that's what makes school life so vibrant and exciting. Our pupils are getting experiences and opportunities that will stay with them forever, and that's what we're here for.
As we head into the weekend, please enjoy the lovely weather we're having, but do keep safe in the sun. Make sure you're staying hydrated and protecting yourselves from those strong rays.
Here's to another fantastic week ahead!

A couple of diary changes: Meet the teacher will now be Friday 18th not 11th as we have a clash with the colour run.
Reports will be a week later on 11th July as I have had SENCo work to do and not enough time to go through each report yet!
