2 Kingfishers Year 1/2
Welcome to Kingfisher Class
Welcome to the summer term! The first thing I want to say is thank you for making me feel so welcome in Kingfishers – we have had so much fun already and got so much done!
Main things this term – please can everyone make sure the children are wearing sun cream every day, have a water bottle and please can they all have a named hat with them. We are outside so much, not just at break, but also with our learning, so it is important as we enter this hot weather season to be fully kitted up, hydrated and protected!
This term we have started our English learning journey with the story Vlad and the Florence Nightingale Adventure and are about to start Ocean Meets Sky. Two very different books, but with so much writing potential within them.
Our history explores significant people, specifically Nurturing Nurses. You have probably heard all about lovely Florence Nightingale and the improvements she made to Scutari hospital and nursing in general! We are also going to learn about Mary Seacole and Edith Cavell, so watch this space for the facts that they retain!
In science we will be learning all about what plants need to survive, what is inside a seed and the lifecycles of different plants.
PE days continue to be Monday and Friday. We will be outside for both sessions (pray for dry days!). Please make sure children are wearing correct school PE kit, no logos please and hats are very important.
We try hard to go out to play in the fresh air in all weathers, so please make sure your child has a waterproof coat whilst it is still so unpredictable weather wise.
Homework comes home on Friday and should be completed and brought back by Wednesday the following week, the same as last term.
Guided reading days are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
Please keep reading and sharing books together at home, it is so important for their development. Remember to read five times per week to gain your stickers and prizes once you reach the top of your strip!
Kingfishers is taught by Miss Leney, and Mrs Nicholls is our class LSA as well as Mrs Thirkeld who is our 1:1 support assistant during the mornings.
Our door is always open. If you have any questions, concerns or queries please just pop-in. Have a great summer term!
